DJ KID (BIO)
DJ Kid is a name which has been synonymous with the UK Jungle and Drum & Bass scene for what seems like an age now. Originally from Edinburgh in Scotland, Kid spent his formative years during the early ’90s making a name for himself in England, Europe and
the USA, playing for some of the biggest Jungle and Drum & Bass promoters.
After performing regularly across England, culminating in two live performances on BBC Radio 1, DJ Kid would start solidifying his name back in his native land, particularly with his 12-year residency at the now legendary club night Manga. Running from January 1996 until January 2008, Manga was the heart and soul of the Scottish Drum & Bass scene. Manga was highly regarded within the industry and was hugely influential in
the development of the scene north of the border, and was many a Scottish clubber’s first introductions to Drum & Bass music. Manga celebrated its 20th-anniversary reunion in October 2016.
DJ Kid’s record label was set up in 2004 with early releases from local producers DJ Kryptik and DJ Samurai, who were studying at Edinburgh University then. 2005 would eventually see the pair join forces and collaborate under the guise of DC Breaks for some of the label’s most successful tracks, including ‘Do You Believe’ and ‘Emperor’. With DJ Samurai’s ‘Be Mine’ coming to the attention of Andy C and subsequent release on Ram Records’ sister label Frequency, Restless Natives reputation for nurturing new talent grew further. DC Breaks have since gone on to be one of the most prolific production outfits in the Drum & Bass scene, and there is no doubt DJ Kid played an influential part in the direction the duo would take.
Fast forward to 2023, DJ Kid is ready for the next chapter of his musical journey. During his hiatus, Kid has been quietly working away on two massive projects, including his autobiography and planning a feature-length documentary, both of which are
scheduled for release in 2023/24. The book and documentary will take an in-depth and very personal insight into his life and 35 years in the music industry. The documentary will feature exclusive interviews and unseen footage.

UNCLE DUGS – RINSE FM
When I got the chance to interview the scene legends on my Rinse FM show, there was only one person North of the border I wanted to speak to and get his story, and that was DJ Kid. He carried the weight of Jungle on his shoulders in Scotland for years, making sure the music we all love so much got its fair share of light in his home town and beyond. An unsung hero in Jungle’s story

What can I say about DJ Kid, man? I would say a big-time music lover to start and pioneer in Scotland inna the Jungle and D&B Bizinizz. I heard about him first around 1995 when a friend of mine came to Brazil and brought him some magazines, and Kid was in them. Later in the future, I shared the DJ box with him.
