MESSENGER: BONGO RE-OPENING NIGHT PARTY!

23:00-03:00 £5 b4 12 and £7 after / £6 all night (students)

Following our summer break, we re-open with Messenger (our most stalwart residents!), as is traditional.  The original roots advertiser, consistently programmes the heights of conscious reggae music, dub-wise and otherwise!  Crazy to think now that it first started in Edinburgh back in 1987 and that it’s been keeping the fires burning, every month, at the Bongo for two thirds of that time.  That’s 30, THIRTY, years at the heart of Edinburgh’s reggae scene, and 20 years here at the Bongo!  Upstairs: Sound System Legacies explores the legacy of dub / reggae / roots music and sound system culture on more contemporary club / dance music styles such as dubstep, jungle, d n b, garage etc, featuring DJ Skillis plus guests…  Look out for some of the mighty Messenger Sound System in here as well!  2 Floors of music – Don’t miss!  Powered by Messenger Sound System.  FACEBOOK

23:00-03:00 TBC

It’s another break-out, one-off session for Sound System Legacies (which now happens upstairs at Messenger Sound System every month), exploring the finest sounds in Jungle, Dubstep, Garage, DnB and Dub, as they celebrate the legacy of reggae music and sound system culture on today’s club sounds, and all via the FULL Messenger Soundsystem.

Saturday 08 September

MUMBO JUMBO + THE GOGO

23:00-03:00 £3 B4 12 / £7 after / £5 (concessions)

Mumbo Jumbo mixes it up a whole heap.  Resident DJs Trendy Wendy, Steve Austin and Eva Crystaltips play everything from disco, funk and soul to electro and house: Saturday night party music all night long.  But Mumbo is very much a LIVE dance party, as ‘Bongo’ David Bernard gets busy on the live percussion alongside Erb & Ting (alias Al Roberts and Groove Armada’s MC MAD), also jamming live (guitar & vox).  AND upstairs it’s The GO-GO, with DJ ‘Tall’ Paul Robinson and friends playing gassy and groovy 60s Pop and Beat, Mod Tunes, Soul, Rock N Roll, Garage, and Ye-Ye…  Two clubs for the price of one?! You bet!
