BEN MONTEITH

19:00-22:00 £15

Glaswegian internet sensation BEN MONTEITH brings his live show (with five-piece band) to the Bongo.   With hundreds of thousands of YouTube hits and over half a million fans on Facebook, the busker-turned-internet-star and father-of-three doesn’t have a record deal and prefers not to go on tour so he can spend more time at home with his children.  Allegedly people have been travelling to Glasgow from all over the UK, just to see him perform (in the street), so it won’t be long before he’s playing venues much bigger than ours.  In fact, he’s already playing the 800 capacity Islington O2 Academy on this short tour…

Saturday 23 June

MUMBO JUMBO w/THE GOGO

23:00 - 03:00 £3 B4 12 / £7 after / £5 (concessions)

Mumbo Jumbo mixes it up a whole heap.  Now augmented by new recruit Eva Crystaltips, resident DJs (and Bongo stalwarts) Trendy Wendy and Steve Austin play everything from disco, funk and soul to electro and house – essentially Saturday night party music all night long.  Meanwhile, fellow stalwart ‘Bongo’ David Bernard gets busy on the live percussion and fellow new recruits Erb & Ting (alias Al Roberts and Groove Armada’s MC MAD) also get jamming LIVE on guitar & vox. AND upstairs it’s The GO-GO, with DJ ‘Tall’ Paul Robinson and friends playing gassy and groovy 60s Pop and Beat, Mod Tunes, Soul, Rock N Roll, Garage, and Ye-Ye…  Two clubs for the price of one?! You bet!

SOULSVILLE

23:00 - 03:00 £5

It’s carnival time at Soulsville and a full team sheet as Calum Evans returns with a swag of rare disco and tropical boogie belters. Furthermore, it’s also a Soulsville debut for Edinburgh based DJs, producers and aural connoisseurs Two Guys. An established presence in the capital’s finest watering holes, these two party starters having been serving up a catalog of sounds inspired by some of the Brazilian, African & Latin American heavyweights that have gone before. This and a compliment of a kaleidoscope of funk, soul and disco…this is 101 Soulsville.  So ‘mon down for some Bebeto-circa-’94 inspired rhythms…it’ll be the last 16 in the WC by then, so here’s hoping for a cracker of a draw. Kick back during the day and soak up the fußball…then come dance it off in the PM…we’ll be here in force! FACEBOOK

TALL RICH (LIVE) - BONGO CLOSING NIGHT

22:00 - 02:00 £6 (adv) / £8 (door)

Reggae music is literally coursing through the veins of Jamaican singer Tall Rich, whose grandmother used to sing at wakes and whose uncle, Uplifter, worked with stars such as Tipper Irie and Junior Delgado.  Having himself performed with legends such as Beres Hammond, Judy Mowatt, Maxi Priest, Sly & Robbie, Cherine Anderson, Freddie McGregor, Chino, Chuck Fenda, Al Campbell & Anthony Johnson, Rich has cultivated a signature vocal style.  With a deeply conscious message to impart and positive vibes throughout, Tall Rich’s dulcet tones should draw you on to the ‘floor, as he spreads the Rastafari gospel.
