SOULSVILLE: MR BONGO

23:00 - 03:00 £4 (early bird) / MOTD

*TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT NOW ONLY AVAILABLE ON THE DOOR*

Regarded in the scene as thee go-to record label for classic, rare and hard-to-find gems in Latin, Brazilian, African, Reggae and Jazz music; MR BONGO for over 25 years has featured a recording roster that has established itself as one of the preeminent record labels in the UK if not the world.  Featuring artists such as Terry Callier, Seu Jorge, Maros Valle, Ebo Taylor and Prince Fatty, Mr Bongo have been sourcing and releasing records that have consistently smashed up parties worldwide since 1989. Thus, and in partnership with our good friends at the Bongo Club (no relation…currently), we are stoked beyond measure to present for one night the legendary MR BONGO.  Featuring MR BONGO with support from SOULSVILLE in the main room, and an upstairs takeover from local reggae and dub aficionados Jofis (Mighty Oak Records) and Fabz (I-Tal Faya/Dub Combe Records), we expect this to be the SOULSVILLE of 2017!   FACEBOOK

TJ Hertz aka Objekt returns for our first party post summer break. An artist who continues to go from strength to strength as a producer and dj, headlining the best clubs and festivals the world over, whilst showing admirable restraint with a series of perfectly executed releases: the self-released EPs; Flatland on PAN; and, the Kern mix on Tresor. Ribeka makes her Substance debut, having co-founded the occasional and absolutely on-point ‘So Low’ party with JD Twitch, whilst being A&R for the expansive Mute sub-label Liberation Technologies.

The Mothership returns…  After the madness that ensued at a sold-out Studio 24 back in February, we are back to bring The Funk to the people all over again. This time we will be landing at Bongos, right in the heart of Cowgate. Our saxophonist is getting ready to join the DJ on stage as we journey through the history of funk in the main room. Upstairs, we will be exploring the influence of funk on techno and their shared links to Afrofuturism. Red Stripe will be behind the bar at the promo offer of £2.50, alongside shots for just £1. 10% of all proceeds from the night will be making their way to Drake Music Scotland, a great cause that gets disabled people involved with playing, performing and creating music.  FACEBOOK
