Following their massive party with Coeo and Club Nacht last month, Hobbes Music welcomes back old friend and award-winning artist Auntie Flo (Brownswood, Highlife, Huntleys & Palmers) aka Brian d’Souza some 15 months after their last B2B at the Bongo – a proper heater.
One of the most truly original production talents of recent times, Auntie Flo offers a gateway to lesser-known strands of music that need exploring. An award-winning sound artist, DJ, music producer and live performer ‘taking World Music into the future’ (The Guardian), he is the winner of the SAY Award for ‘Radio Highlife’ and Electronic Musician of the Year Award by Nordoff Robbins, cementing him as a central figure in a ‘new strand of club music fusing electronic and world influences alongside the likes of Four Tet, Daphni, Romare, Sinkane and John Wizards’ (The Wire).
Much-hyped Edinburgh record label Hobbes Music ‘espouses a broad music policy that nods to the past while forging ahead into unknown dancefloor and listening territory on many occasions defying categorisation’ (EPM). It has put out a steady run of vinyl & digital releases since 2013 across a broad range of electronic music styles, designed for mind, body and soul.
Expect ’nuff exclusives and fresh cuts alongside classics and old favourites from both DJs, as they keep the party going with contemporary and classic genres from across the globe (including rave, techno, disco, electro, house, breakbeat and bass styles).
There will no doubt be some unreleased Highlife and Auntie Flo productions as well Hobbes Music label and Leonidas & Hobbes productions in the mix – not least from Radio Highlife and recent album with Sarathy Korwar, Shruthi Dances (The Guardian’s Global Album Of The Month, Aug ’22), plus Leonidas & Hobbes’ widely acclaimed most recent EPs: Aranath and The Rags Of Time.
Listen to Auntie Flo’s recent radio show for NTS to get an idea of where his musical head is at right now.
Support from HM live staple Jacksonville – aka Capricorn One (Headset) aka Limoux – who has carpet-bombed numerous HM parties with his floor-quaking beats and bass and turned heads among trailblazing international DJs with his 2020 ‘FON’ EP for the HM label and last year’s Capricorn One debut on the Headset label. Expect live UK techno, electro & house from him.
And EHFM’s much loved ‘LUNCH’ host, Nikki Kent, will be taking care of business upstairs, playing ‘cosmic, dubby, ethno sounds, acid undulators, baggy chugz with a sprinkling of squashy house and oddbaw techno,’ she says. ‘Slo mo hard hitters, music with space to roll around in, a feast of fruity rhythms!’
