LOVE MUSIC HATE RACISM: LOWKEY + JOLLY ABACUS & THE POSITIVE EXPERIENCE (LIVE)

19:00-22:00 £5 (unwaged/student) / £7 (waged) / £10 (solidarity)

Lowkey is widely regarded as one of UK hip-hop’s finest. His socially conscious approach sets him apart from his contemporaries. After a hiatus which saw him take time off to focus on studies and activism, he has returned to a different world politically and a country in a state of flux. He uses his music to shine a light on the inner workings of global power structures, multinationals and their relationships with governments.  Jolly Abacus & The Positive Experience are an Edinburgh based hip-hop group fronted by trans-woman Jolly Abacus, with a vast range of musical influences from folk, to funk, to fireside poetry. With music generated largely from extended improvisation sessions and communal composition, their sound is always driven by energy. Each musician is given space to flourish and to bring their own signature sound to the performance.
