MESSENGER SOUND SYSTEM: BOB MARLEY'S BIRTHDAY

Rather than celebrate its own birthday, with characteristic humility, tonight Messenger celebrates the birthday of the original reggae don, Robert Nesta Marley, instead. However, it’s worth mentioning that Messenger will actually be 28 this year, having originally launched in 1987, with nights at The Venue (RIP) and The Wee Red Bar/ECA, before beginning its Bongo Club residency when we first opened (in New Street), in 1996.

The man behind it all, Edinburgh’s most stalwart Jedi of dub-reggae, Stevie Messenger, is still going strong with his own custom-built, bass-heavy rig – Scotland’s original (and biggest) roots and culture rasta reggae sound system! Expect to hear plenty of Marley/Wailers classics and versions tonight, but most of all expect some sweet, sweet, classic reggae at this one.  Irie.
