BIG N BASHY feat Taz Buckfaster - 13 February 2010

Big N Bashy is one the hottest nights to hit Edinburgh’s Saturday night club scene in recent years + has already gained a steady + loyal following amongst Edinburgh’s clubbers for its up-to-the-minute, bass-heavy sounds.

The special guest DJ tonight, from the wild wild west, is Taz Buckfaster [Rwina / Numbers / Subway]
Hailing from sunny Glasgow, Taz is a shining light in a sea of dubstep mediocraty, utilising the sleazy synths of classic r'n'b, and the soul-edged funk of Detroit, the Buckfaster sound could be considered the Glasgow Purple sound comparable to the Bristol Purple sound of Joker / Guido / Gemmy.

Part of the infamous Numbers crew featuring some of Glasgow's most talented electronic musicians / djs / graphic designers Taz has releases ready to unleash funk onto the dubstep scene.

Taz describes his sound as:  "Like an 80's crack-baby's first steps; Nino Brown's thanksgiving turkey giveaway;  a hobo's internal monologue; Buckfast in your eardrums/pants (delete as appropriate)"

And quotes his influences thus: "Liquid, Altern8, Darkthrone, Skream, Slayer, Big Trouble In Little China, Roger Troutman, Rick James, Trojan Records, Tyrone Biggums, Sega Megadrive.

Bored of the usual one genre per night ethos of most nights, the Big N Bashy team plays the finest reggae, grime, dubstep and jungle through a monster combination of The Bongo Club's in house sound system and an extra six subs care of the well respected dub reggae sounds of the mighty Messenger Sound System.  With this great combo of musical styles and a killer sound system Big N Bashy delivers the biggest beats and bashiest basslines, while The Messenger ensures the good vibrations all night long!

Also available is a fortnightly online Big N Bashy radio show, hosted by the residents, going on air at 3pm.

ROGER CLYNE & The Peacemakers - live - 20 February 2010

Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers, with Lee Patterson opening the show

Arizona's finest bringing heat to the Scottish Winter in February

The sound of Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers owes as much to the punky, power-pop of the late-seventies as it does to the traditional American rock influences of Tom Petty and Springsteen.  Like other South-West cult icons Alejandro Escovedo and Joe Ely, RCPM are unafraid to cross boundaries with their music, and will mix tales of banditos from somewhere-down-Mexico-way with subtle observations of the human condition amongst tequila-slugging good-time anthems.  All this set against a backdrop of riff-rich driving guitar, and melodic, memorable choruses, while unmistakable tones of Mariachi and Spanish phrasing drift in and out of the proceedings.

RCPM were born from the ashes of The Refreshments, the late-90s rock band whose two cult-classic major label releases produced several hit singles.  Clyne wrote and performed the theme song for the hit cartoon series King of the Hill with the band.

The Refreshments disbanded in 1998, and quickly learning to fly without the safety net of a label, Clyne and drummer PH Naffah formed RCPM to become the only independent band to debut in the Top 10 on Billboard's Internet Sales chart for six consecutive albums, including two number one entries.  Firmly entrenched in the independent ethos, RCPM are proof positive that quality music does not have to fit into the framework laid down by the major players to survive, and thrive.
