Having established their original weekly, Friday night club night, Trouble ‘at the Blue Note’, back in March 2002, DJs Hobbes & Erik d’Viking ran Trouble for 10 years, with it becoming one of the capital’s most celebrated club and live gig institutions.
They worked with a ridiculously long list of legends and greats from across the soul/dance/electronic spectrum (including Marlena Shaw, Candi Staton, Spanky Wilson, Horace Andy, Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay, Ashley Beedle, Mr Scruff, Roy Ayers, Fat Freddys Drop, Massive Attack’s Daddy G, Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B, Quantic, Alice Russell, Hudson Mohawke, Lucky Me, Lone, Actress, Dixon, Ame, Henrik Schwarz, The Revenge, Jazzanova, Mount Kimbie, Crazy P and Linkwood, to name a few) and often long before anyone else had thought of booking them (they’re proud like that but never big-headed), before bowing out to focus on studio production, a label (Hobbes Music) and family (d’Viking)…
The success of the night (twice nominated in Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards; once Runner Up) launched a DJing career for the duo, who took Trouble all over Scotland and beyond, to Ireland, Belgium, Austria, Poland, Germany, Sardinia, even China, not to mention a load of UK and international festivals.
This will be the first time they’ve played back-to-back in Edinburgh in more than three years.
