FUNKEN FOLK

FUNKEN FOLK

Prepare to dance until your souls are worn through, as we transport you over choppy seas in our rickety ship, on a multi-genre voyage of skulduggery.

First up, summoning up the spirits of the buried past and channeling their howls, Àdhamh Ó Broin will regale us with a selection of Gaelic folk songs, rock & roll and his own inimitable banter.

Then Shipwreck Rats, Berlin’s furriest, most furious pirate speed folk troupe will take to the stage, rounding off the band’s first visit to Scotland with a set that’s sure to get your timbers shivered.

And finally, it’s all hands on the decks, as Gordie “Groove” Holliday, resident DJ at Glasgow’s Buff Club makes us all jiggle about like puppets with their strings in a twist.
Sparks will fly and sweaty flies will drop out of the sky. You’d better funken believe it!

Shipwreck Rats (pirate speed folk)

Shipwreck Rats are a pirate speed folk band based in Berlin. We play fast and evil music from Scotland, Ireland, North America and all the other places we’ve plundered in our time. We’ve played well over 150 gigs in the last 5 years, in Berlin, around Germany and beyond, garnering a reputation for fun, energetic shows which veer off from traditional folk into punk, blues, country, rock & roll and much more besides. We also have many songs about contemporary issues like whaling and trouserlessness. Anyone refusing to dance at our gigs will be made to walk the plank!
