By Liam Machell
My name is Liam Machell, I was born in Reading , England in 1980.At the ages of five I moved to Co.Down in Northern Ireland with my mother where I stayed for the next ten years. In 1995 I moved to Harare in Zimbabwe to live with my father and finish my secondary schooling, although I did not study art at school it is here that I started doing simple designs with felt pens and after a brief visit to Northern Ireland , larger pictures with acrylic inks. In 1999 I returned to Northern Ireland and continued with my acrylic ink work and steadily increased the size of my work.
In September 2000 I moved to Stirling in Scotland to study aquaculture at Stirling University , where my artwork more or less stopped due to the demands of student life and it wasn't until 2003 after leaving university that I started my artwork again and continued my acrylic ink work. In September 2004 I moved to Edinburgh and began exploring other artistic mediums. Firstly trying silk painting which I still adore, however I found it just too expensive, and so tried oil pastels and now to date most of my recent work has been done in oil pastel. For my latest pictures I've started acrylics, and working on canvases which I am finding both extremely challenging and rewarding. However if money was infinite, I would use all the above mediums especially silk painting, as we all know money isn't infinite, which brings me into 2005 still in Edinburgh and looking for exhibition space.
