Screenprints and paintings by Elph
Elph was born in 1977 and grew up in Edinburgh doing all the stupid things
that wee guys do - until he got the book 'Subway Art' for his 12th birthday.
Then he started to paint graffiti. In 1994 he formed a friendship with the
writer DASE who had already started the MANY STYLES CREW and the learning process
started again with a greater range of influences.
Banjo Whackin' Funk is loosely based on British and American sheet music
from the 1800’s to early 1900's, directly inspired by the amazing craftsmanship
of the people that created the covers for the music that still exist today.
Elph’s focal medium is paint on wood, walls, paper and canvas (pretty
much anything really). His work is influenced by childhood and present day
memories of pubs and publicans. Enjoying a range of styles he also works
closely with graphic design ninjas – 16k Design Works.
