CITY OF.....
11th June 04 - 7th July 04
City of . . . . is an exhibition from Edinburgh based photographer Alan
Stockdale. This collection of work from New York - September 2003 captures the very essence of the diverse everyday sights and character that the Big Apple has to offer. Inspired by the pulsating energy of the streets, Alan's work conveys a mixture of urban shapes, structures, art, advertising and style. Amongst the greyscale of the pure mass of concrete, there are bursts of colour in the form of taxi's, street signs and scrawled graffiti.
"A lot of folk would consider cities to be chaotic, noisy and oozing with pollution, but i believe this form of organised confusion is what gives the city its sense of energy and rhythm, something of which New York definately has an abundance off." Alan Stockdale.
Alan's main source of inspiration is street culture and in the past has followed through projects with artists from Belfast based record label Fresco
Recordings and AMP magazine, supplying images for record sleeves and magazine covers. He is currently working alongside Edinburgh based arts collective Gamma
Proforma as in-house photographer.
